Daniel Anderson | Emergency Management Program Manager
Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, KS
Daniel Anderson is currently the Emergency Management Program Manager with the Shawnee Mission Health system for Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kansas. Mr. Anderson collaborates with Key Leaders in Administration, Clinical Services, Support Services, and Ancillary Services in defining the hospital’s emergency management program mission, vision and goals. Mr. Anderson coordinates the Emergency Management Committee, the implementation for emergency preparedness, by assisting in the development and maintenance of an All-Hazards and Whole Community approach for Healthcare Emergency Management Planning by Mitigating, Preparing, Responding and Recovering Shawnee Mission Health’s employees, patients, visitors, property, and assets. Mr. Anderson was elected as the Kansas Co-Chair for the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Regional Homeland Security Coordinating Council’s Hospital Committee representing the Kansas City-Kansas Metro hospitals in the Kansas City Metro.
Mr. Anderson joined Shawnee Mission Medical Center in 2010, where he began his hospital experience in the Security Department. Mr. Anderson grew to enhance the Security Department as the provider for the Emergency Management planning and preparedness by engaging in valued partnerships with the internal staff members by developing new exercises of the Emergency Plans and seeking valued improvements to; Communications, Safety & Security, Staff Responsibilities, Patient Clinical & Support Activities, Resources & Assets, and the Utilities Management.
Mr. Anderson is a Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP), Advanced certification with the International Association of Healthcare Safety & Security (IAHSS), and received his Bachelor’s degree in Emergency & Disaster Management from American Military University in St, Charles Town, WV, and is working on a Dual-Masters in Emergency & Disaster Management, and Homeland Security. Mr. Anderson is also a retired Combat-Veteran.

Bret Martin | Director of Fire, Life, Safety, & Utilities

Bret M. Martin, PE, CSP, CFPS, CHFM, CHSP, CHE, CLSS-HC is currently the Director of Fire, Life Safety & Utilities for Corporate Operations for Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS). CHS is one of the leading healthcare organizations in the Southeast with 47 affiliated hospitals having more than 7,460 licensed beds. Prior to working with CHS, Bret worked 25 years as a Senior Property & Casualty Risk Consultant in the insurance industry. Bret is a registered Fire Protection Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina and holds Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Healthcare Engineer (CHE), and Certified Life Safety Specialist for Healthcare Facilities (CLSS-HC) designations. Bret also holds memberships with NFPA, SFPE, ASSE, currently serves as a member of the CFPS Certification Advisory Group, as well as, being a member on the NFPA 99 - Fundamentals Technical Committee and an alternate on the NPFA 99 Piping Technical Committee. He also serves on the Public Safety Advisory Committee for Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC.
Mike Ward | Director of Information Technology

Mike Ward is the Director of Information Technology for Anderson Hospital and has been in healthcare IT for over 20 years. He manages all aspects of the hospital’s technical infrastructure including emergency communications. He is part the hospital’s emergency management team and also works part-time as a first responder. Anderson has implemented numerous tools to allow the organization to better respond to the specific event.
