About the Speaker: Ben Brewer

Ben Brewer

Benjamin (Ben) Brewer is the Chief Information Security Officer and Senior Director of Professional Services for Alertus Technologies.  In this role, he consults with clients on crisis communications and continuity of operations matters, influences client-focused solution design, oversees solution implementation and training, and manages the organization’s information security program ensuring corporate information security as well as ensuring designed solutions comply with Client identified information security requirements.  Ben’s crisis management, continuity of operations, and information security experience spans more than 35 years; this period includes 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired as Chief Master Sergeant in 2008. He culminated his Air Force career serving three years in the Pentagon as a member of the Air Staff, where he managed over 3,100 airmen performing emergency and crisis management functions at over 150 locations globally.  Of note, he was the primary architect of the Air Force’s Emergency Mass Notification Program.

His crisis management experience includes directly supporting Federal Emergency Management Agency operations, consulting with emergency managers and business continuity professionals to understand/establish requirements and design and implement comprehensive emergency notification solutions at the organization, local, state, and national level both within the United States and internationally.  Ben has developed and managed full-spectrum information security programs for crisis communication solutions to test and evaluate on-premise and cloud-service deployment model compliance with security models including the Federal Information Security Management Act, Department of Defense Information Assurance and Interoperability, Cloud Security Alliance, and SANS Organization criteria. He holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Management, a Master of Arts degree in Emergency and Disaster Management, and a Master of Science in Information Technology concentrating on Information System Security.  In addition to crisis communications consultant engagements, Ben often addresses audiences and contributes content on the subjects of resiliency, compliance, and security.
