Speaker Bios

James H. Johnson, AVP for Campus Safety, The University of Texas at Austin


Mr. Johnson serves as the Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety at the University of Texas at Austin.  Johnson oversees the Emergency Preparedness, Fire Prevention Services and Environmental Health and Safety departments. In his role as the Assistant vice president, he is responsible for providing leadership and direction for all aspects related to Campus Safety, including preparation, organizing and directing emergency planning and preparedness, fire prevention services activities, and environmental health and safety concerns.  Mr. Johnson is a public safety professional with over three decades of fire-life safety and emergency management expertise gained through leadership opportunities within a municipal fire department organization and at a flagship public university. He is skilled in the direction and effective operation of fire strategies, tactics, and prevention activities, recognized national fire service standards and practices, and the knowledge and skills normally utilized in applying and interpreting applicable local, state and federal regulations in reference to fire safety standards and guidelines.

Emergency Management & Business Resiliency Manager, Toyota 


Michael Garza is a business resiliency practitioner with Toyota Motor North America headquartered in Plano, Texas. In his previous role, Michael specialized in the operational deployment of ISO certified Safety and Environmental management systems contributing to his recent transition with business continuity. Michael currently leads Emergency Planning and Operational Recovery strategies across multiple segments of Toyota’s operations. A strong advocate for innovative design, Michael champions Toyota’s pursuit of Starting Your Impossible and is highly committed to developing leadership and creativity within his team. 

Dennis May Chief Business Development Officer, Founding Partner - Practical
Lifesaving Solutions


In 2017, Dennis R. May retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after serving over 25 years as a Special Agent. While employed with the FBI, May’s experience included being a SWAT Team Leader, a SWAT Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a certified Tactical Instructor, a certified Firearm’s Instructor, a Defensive Tactic’s Instructor, and Assistant Crisis Management Coordinator. In 2007, May created the FBI’s Central Texas Violent Crimes Task Force and held the position of Task Force Coordinator until 2017. While serving as a Special Agent, May’s duty assignments included Los Angeles, California; Helena, Montana; and Austin, Texas. May’s temporary duty assignments included Washington D.C., Russia, Argentina, Spain, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Afghanistan. In 2016, May co-founded Practical Lifesaving Solutions (PLS), and currently holds the position of Chief Development Officer. In addition to creating business opportunities for PLS, May conducts Vulnerability Assessments, and provides Critical Incident Preparedness Training, as well as Bleeding Control Training, to assist organizations with mitigating both man-made and naturally occurring critical incidents.

Guy Beveridge Director of Business Development, Strategos International, LLC

With a background in military and civil special operations, Guy Beveridge is an internationally known trainer, speaker, professional security consultant and licensed master peace officer in Texas. He is an expert in security management, crime, loss prevention, investigations, and crisis response and has managed security projects, both national and international for businesses that top the Fortune 500 list. He specializes in prediction, recognition, and evaluation of crime risk and consults with business owners, managers, insurance carriers, and police worldwide developing congruent plans to reduce crime risk through policy design and training. Guy worked on the FBI Joint Terrorism task force immediately following the events of 9/11 to develop first responder response protocols and capabilities for terrorist attacks. In his current role, he is the Director of Business Development for Strategos International - the worldwide leader in safety and security solutions for businesses. Additionally, he is an adjunct instructor for the ALERRT Center (Texas State University), the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), The Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) and is a member of the board for Texas Justice of the Peace and Constables education and training development.
