Alertus’ Benefits and Employee Perks


Medical Benefits

Alertus understands that when it comes to medical and health conditions, not every employee has the same needs. We also know that every employee’s needs may alternate each year. Unlike other companies, Alertus offers multiple medical benefit plans each year to better serve our employees. 

How many is multiple? We currently have four different health plans! These plans range from premium saving catastrophic coverage and consumer-driven plans to heavy utilization plans.  This way, you can pick what will be the most economical for your upcoming year.

We also offer competitive Dental and Vision benefit plans. 


Supplemental Insurances

Sometimes, life is more unexpected than you thought it would be. Don’t worry; Aflac has you covered! We offer Short-term Disability, Accident, Hospital, and Cancer insurance options for employees. These plans are a great supplement to our Medical plans, and employees can opt into them as they see fit. You do not need to enroll in Alertus’ medical plans to be eligible.


PAID PARENTAL LEAVE (MATERNITY/PATERNITY)

You just added a new baby/child to your family. Now what? We hope you’ll stay home and get to know that little person you’re now responsible for shaping into a well-balanced, happy, big person. No pressure! Welcoming a little bundle of joy into this world is a significant life change — one into which you should be able to pour 100% of your time and attention.


Alertus provides new parents one (1) month of paid time off to bond and care for their newest responsibilities and mental health. In addition, our HQ location is FMLA eligible, and employees can combine some of their other paid leave time.


RETIREMENT SAVINGS PLAN

We offer employees the opportunity to enroll in our Fidelity Advantage 401(k) plan.

There is no waiting period. Employees eligible to participate are automatically entitled to the Company’s contribution/match.


Unlimited Paid time off

Alertus is proud to offer the flexibility of Unlimited Paid Time Off (UPTO) to full-time employees. Instead of a traditional vacation or sick day policy, you can request time off as needed. New hires must complete a 60-day waiting period that begins on the first day of the following month of their start date to enroll in the program.

Flex Scheduling

Paid Time Off (PTO) is best saved for the fun stuff! 

Alertus knows that an employee’s life is full of planned and unplanned events on any given workday. We believe in a culture based around a healthy work-life balance. 

If your work schedule and role allow, we encourage our employees to utilize our Flex Scheduling policy to adjust their schedules to make up for lost hours due to doctor's appointments, calls to pick up a sick child, etc.

Great Location - HQ Office

Located in the heart of downtown Baltimore City, we are excited about our first ever fully-owned HQ office! Not only is this our HQ office, but it is the Center for Intelligent Buildings. Hopefully, it doesn’t become sentient and take over the world!

The building is simply stunning — and award-winning. The original architect firm, Ziger|Snead, won the 2001 Design Award from AIA Baltimore. 

While this building may be intelligent and beautiful, it’s also famous! 

Fun fact: Our gorgeous office was featured in the HBO shows House of Cards and The Wire.

All jokes aside, the location of our HQ is nestled in the City Center district of Baltimore City and surrounded by restaurants, bars, and other retail options all within walking distance making lunchtime worth getting outside and after-hours fun and convenient.

Branch Office Expansions: We are growing and expanding with branches in Florida and India! 


Casual Dress

Alertus has a casual dress code, making work almost as comfortable as home — and well, sometimes work is at your home. The virtual dress code is what we call the “Mullet of Professional Wear” - it’s all business on top, and please, for the love of Bob, be wearing at least pants just in case you miscalculated what parts are showing up on camera.


EMPLOYEE LOUNGE & FLEXIBLE WORKSPACES

Ping Pong, anyone? We believe in setting up employee-driven spaces where they can take a step back from their work and reset, challenge their rivals — err coworkers — to a healthy butt-kicking and lots of laughs.

In addition to employee R&R spaces, we also have flexible workspaces throughout the HQ office for various workstyle preferences. With the building’s stunning window line, you can work next to natural light, bring your laptop to a cozy nook, make calls in a private office, or immerse yourself in some of our larger flex spaces for more ambient noise and camaraderie. We have dedicated training rooms, live demonstration spaces, conference rooms, and even a complete auditorium!


Free Snacks

Who can concentrate on an empty stomach? Not us! We provide a variety of complimentary snacks at the corporate office for our employees to grab during their busy days.

Whether you’re drinking alcohol, soda, or nothing, employees are invited to attend our employee-led happy hours and brainstorm discussions. Sometimes we like to change the atmosphere to get those ideas flowing or allow employees to speak with other team members they may not interact with daily to inspire one another with project or process improvement ideas


Social Events

We strive to have a strong company culture where Employees can connect through collaborative work projects and fun social activities to get to know each other outside of work activities.

Examples of Previous or Reoccuring Events: Annual crab feast, Orioles and Washington National’s baseball games, picnics and BBQs, scavenger hunts, bourbon/tequila tastings, an employee created mini-golf course, and more!


Rewards Trips

Alertus allows employees to qualify for our Circle of Excellence Rewards trip each year as circumstances permit (we take Covid-19 very seriously). These trips are a once in lifetime Adventure style vacation where you and your fellow qualified coworkers can enjoy an experience unlike any other! They are not something you would forget… unless you get a concussion. 

Previous destinations have included: The Costa Rican rainforest, the mountains and lakes of Peru, the glaciers of Iceland, and the jungle and beaches of Belize.

Adventures have included: Ziplining one of the top 3 rated courses for highest and fastest in the world, kayaking on a reservoir under a volcano, hiking Macchu Picchu Mountain, sleeping on an artificial Floating Island of Lake Titicaca, snowmobiling on a glacier, cave tubing, and cruising on a private catamaran plus a dip in the ocean for some snorkeling with sharks!

These are the trips you won’t want to miss, and if you’ve ever been on one, you know the unofficial motto is “You can sleep when you’re dead!” 


Live Near Your Work

Alertus and the City of Baltimore have partnered to offer employees a homebuying incentive when purchasing a house within Baltimore City limits! This incentive is open to all employees working in the HQ office or from home.


Employee Referral Bonuses

We LOVE, and we mean LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, employee referrals! Everyone wins when you love working at Alertus enough to refer someone you think we will love working at Alertus! As a thank you, we offer a stacking referral bonus. Our current program starts at $500.00, and then each referral after that within the same year is an additional $500.00.
