Customer Safety Advisory Notice

Alertus Technologies’ Electronic Devices - General Safety Notice & Guidelines

Some of our electronic devices use high-voltage, high-power audio signals, and flashing lights/strobes in order to notify people of emergencies, often over large distances and in some cases over loud ambient noise areas. In certain, easily-preventable situations, output levels may be harmful to individuals so it is important that customers take proper precautions. Customers should adhere to federal, state, organizational (i.e., UL, NFPA, ISO, BSI), and their own company policies, processes, laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations at all times.

The customer assumes all responsibility and liability for ensuring that no one is harmed by Alertus solutions due to a lack of training; improper placement/installation or use; a lack of the proper Protective Personal Equipment (PPE); inappropriate tools; or unauthorized access to the devices.

Training and documentation are offered by Alertus for our products; however, the customer is responsible for attending and completing this training as well as reviewing and following the documentation associated with their Alertus products. The customer is also responsible for ensuring those who have access to their Alertus products complete any additional training necessary to work in any environments in which the products are placed/installed, as well as to work with any tools or other electronic equipment associated with the use of our products.

The customer is responsible for the proper placement and the environment in which the Alertus electronic devices are installed. Customers are responsible for securing any of their devices from being accessed by any unauthorized individuals or preventing too close of proximity with certain products during activation. Any damage to the products or harm to individuals caused by the improper placement or accessibility to the products is solely the responsibility of the customer. Some products are intentionally installed in locations that have their own hazards and requirements for PPE and the customer assumes all liability associated with sending workers to access, maintain, troubleshoot, or install these devices as well as providing the proper training and PPE associated with accessing these locations.

The customer understands that whenever devices are interacted with beyond the intentionally fabricated end user-designated buttons and switches, all devices should be properly powered down, unplugged/disconnected from the power source (when applicable), and discharged of any residual power before any maintenance is performed on them. Customers should exercise standard electrical safety practices such as lockout/tag out whenever possible and only have properly trained technicians, engineers, or certified workers conduct maintenance on the internal workings of electronic equipment and devices.

Furthermore, electronic devices and appliances have the potential to cause harm or death to those who operate them if they do not follow the proper use and instructions for each device. Alertus’ electronic devices are no different and should only be used as they were intended and within the environments for which they were designed. The customer is liable for any harm caused by tampering with or misusing our products. Some examples of misuse include, but are not limited to, removing or altering any of the housing that protects the electrical components from view or exposure to the elements, using the products for anything other than what they were intended, and not following regulations for the electrical conduits that power them.

With proper precautions in place, customers can ensure the safety of their organization’s Alertus authorized users and alert recipients.
