What is FedRAMP?

The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, is a government-wide program that specializes in assessing the security of cloud products and services used by federal agencies.

Before FedRAMP, cloud service providers had to prepare an authorization package for each individual agency, and the requirements were not always consistent. FedRAMP was developed in 2012 to help standardize and streamline the cloud authorization process for all agencies.

FedRAMP is managed by a Joint Authorization Board (JAB), which is made up of representatives from various government entities:

  • The Department of Homeland Security

  • The General Services Administration

  • The Department of Defense

Do I need FedRAMP Authorization?

FedRAMP authorization is required to comply with federal requirements and ensure consistency in the security of government cloud services.

However, private cloud deployments that are intended for a single organization (not multi-tenant) and entities who deploy the Alertus Server fully within a federal facility do not require FedRAMP authorization.
