Underwriters Laboratories (UL) serves as a worldwide independent safety science organization that performs testing, validation, and certification for products to guarantee they adhere to stringent safety benchmarks. In this guide, we explore the significance of each validation and highlight the Alertus products that meet these standards.

UL Designations

  • Products categorized as UL Listed have successfully undergone safety evaluations, confirming their suitability for use across a wide range of environments. It applies to standalone, end-use equipment.

  • The UL Recognized designation is specifically geared toward the individual components that make up a more complex, UL Certified electronic system. Not intended for standalone use.

  • UL Certified serves as a general classification, signifying that a product has successfully satisfied rigorous quality and safety criteria.

  • A UL Rating indicates that a product has undergone extensive testing to verify compliance with national safety and performance benchmarks.

Alertus Products and Solutions with UL Validation

Alertus Server/Desktop Client Software

In 2019, Alertus earned the UL 2572 Certification, a standard established in 2011 to evaluate the performance of mass notification systems (MNS). Achieving this certification meant undergoing stringent testing that aligns with UL's electronic device benchmarks, notably demonstrating the ability to become fully operational within 10 seconds of an emergency alert being initiated. Alertus was the first unified mass notification provider to become UL 2572 certified, a testament to Alertus’ dedication to advancing life-saving solutions. Alertus Server/Desktop Client software is UL 2572 certified as a recognized component, and requires a UL Listed computer.

Indoor Omni Directional Horn

Alertus’ Indoor Omni Directional Horn is currently undergoing UL 1480 certification, a standard tailored specifically for life-safety applications that ensures certified speakers will flawlessly deliver life-safety instructions when disaster strikes. The standard aligns with the National Electrical Code NFPA 70, and the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, NFPA 72. 

HPSA Cabinet

The Alertus High Power Speaker Array (HPSA) Cabinet carries a UL 50 rating, which specifically addresses the construction, design, and materials of electrical equipment enclosures. This certification ensures the cabinet is sufficiently durable to protect its internal electrical components.
